Personal Carriers

Personal carriers (grandsons of the infamous 'fuzzy-wuzzy angels') are available to carry your backpack for you. This is a recommended option if you are not an experienced trekker. The cost for a personal carrier for the duration of the trek is $450. Adventure Kokoda do not retain any commission from this fee - the full amount is transferred to PNG

Please Note:

Many trekkers find they are unable to carry their backpacks due to the ruggedness of the terrain and therefore have to recruit one from villages to help them finish the trek. This is often difficult to arrange due to the remoteness of the villages and the complexities of providing additional food, clothing, equipment and return fares. We therefore have to impose a surcharge of $150 for any additional personal carriers that need to be recruited during the trek. This will increase the cost of your personal carrier to $600 if you need to exercise this option so please be sure of your physical capability if you elect to carry your own pack.

Public Liability Insurance.

This is a Trek Operators responsibility and provides essential cover protecting you against any accident that might cause a permanent disability.

Personal Travel Insurance.

This is your responsibility as a trekker and covers your evacuation from the track and any hospital/medical treatment for any injury or medical condition that caused the evacuation. Personal Travel Insurance does not cover any permanent disability which may result from an accident.

TREK WARNING: It is your responsibility to ensure the trek operator you choose has a legal Public Liability Insurance policy for your protection. Some PNG trek operators do not pay premiums for Public Liability Insurance in order to keep their costs down. You would be taking an unacceptable risk in trekking across such a rugged and remote area without this type of insurance protection in today's environment.
